Heliconius melpomene

Black wings with a bold red forewing band, almost identical to Heliconius erato through mimicry. It flies slowly, feeds on nectar and pollen, and adults live for several weeks. A butterfly-house classic and an ideal species for explaining Müllerian mimicry to visitors.
