Yellow-edged Giant Owl
Caligo atreus
One of the largest owl butterflies: the upperside is deep violet-blue with a broad yellow band on the hindwing, while the underside shows the classic owl eyespots. It rests on trunks by day and flies toward ripe fruit at dusk. Truly spectacular when it opens its wings.
