Ruby-spotted Swallowtail

Papilio anchisiades

A tailless black swallowtail with a pink to ruby patch on the hindwings. It flies at mid-height and keeps its wings fluttering while feeding at flowers. Its size and constant motion bring energy to a display, and its bird-dropping-mimic caterpillar makes an excellent teaching subject.
